Man detained near Negotino after killed game found in his rucksack

A 56-year-old man from Negotino was detained on the evening of 24 August 2026 after a game warden discovered a killed wild animal in his rucksack during a hunting stand, police said.

“On 24.08.2026 at 20:20 hours, police officers from OVR Negotino detained K.V.(56) from Negotino. It had been reported earlier that near a place called 'Gorna Chesma' in the territory of the village Timjanik, Negotino, a game warden from the hunting society 'Vardar' from Negotino had found K.V. with a rucksack in which there was a killed wild animal during a hunting stand. Police officers inspected the scene, and from K.V. they seized the game, a hunting rifle 'Baikal', a weapon possession permit and other documentation. A public prosecutor was informed and after documenting the event an appropriate charge will be filed against K.V.,” the police bulletin says.

Items seized and next steps

Police say they carried out an on-site inspection at the location identified as Gorna Chesma, in the territory of the village of Timjanik, and removed the animal from the suspect. Along with the carcass they confiscated a Baikal-brand hunting rifle, the suspect’s firearm possession permit and other paperwork related to the incident.

The arrested man is identified only by his initials in the police notice as K.V.(56). Authorities have notified a public prosecutor and announced that charges will be prepared once investigators complete documentation of the case.

The case was reported by a game warden tied to the local hunting society Vardar, whose intervention led police to the scene. Investigators from the Negotino police unit continue to process the location and gather evidence.

Police did not immediately release further details about the species of the animal or whether the suspect holds a valid hunting license beyond the possession permit that was seized; those points are to be clarified during the ongoing investigation.
