Temporary border crossing opens at Ogut–Kalovo on September 8, 2026
Pedestrian crossing between Ogut (Kriva Palanka, North Macedonia) and Kalovo (Trgoviste, Serbia) will operate 09:00–23:30 during Independence Day events.
A temporary pedestrian border crossing will be opened between the villages of Ogut (Kriva Palanka, Republic of North Macedonia) and Kalovo (Trgoviste, Republic of Serbia) on 8 September 2026, to coincide with North Macedonia's Independence Day events.
According to the Municipality of Kriva Palanka, the short-term crossing will be enabled so residents on both sides of the border can attend the traditional community gathering in Ogut.
Details of operation
"The Municipality of Kriva Palanka informs citizens that on 8 September 2026 in the village of Ogut a traditional popular gathering and joint celebration of the holiday will be held. On that occasion, it is planned to open a temporary border crossing between the villages of Ogut, Municipality of Kriva Palanka, Republic of North Macedonia and Kalovo, Municipality of Trgoviste, Republic of Serbia. The temporary border crossing will be in operation on 8 September 2026, in the period from 9:00 to 23:30, with pedestrian movement enabled for citizens across the state border at border stone 12 in the village of Ogut. The opening of the crossing is part of the traditional joint celebration and allows meetings and festive gatherings of residents from both sides of the border," the public communications office of the Municipality of Kriva Palanka said.
The crossing is intended only for pedestrians; there is no indication that vehicle traffic will be permitted. Officials pointed to border stone 12 in Ogut as the location for crossing the state line.
Organisers emphasised the temporary nature of the measure: the checkpoint will operate solely on 8 September 2026 between 09:00 and 23:30 to facilitate the festivities and meetings between neighbours from the two countries.
