La Liga announced the three nominees for Coach of the Month for August 2026 on September 2, 2026. The shortlist features Hansi Flick of Barcelona, José Mourinho of Real Madrid and Quique Sánchez Flores of Alavés.
Early-season form under the microscope
Hansi Flick enjoyed a perfect start in August, recording three wins from three matches while Barcelona posted a goal difference of +10.
José Mourinho’s Real Madrid also opened with three wins, finishing the month with a goal difference of +8 under his stewardship.
The third nominee, Quique Sánchez Flores, led Alavés to two victories and one draw in August, giving his side a goal difference of +4 and making him a notable challenger to the two front-runners.
The award recognises monthly coaching performances in Spain’s top flight and often reflects which managers have produced the strongest immediate results after the summer break.
Earlier, Osnabrück took the lead, but Bayern ultimately won convincingly in the first round of the cup.
