PSG’s season opener moved from Parc des Princes — match with Rennes shifted to Roazhon Park
Inspection on 19 August found the Parc des Princes pitch unsafe; PSG and Rennes will swap home venues for the opening round.

Paris Saint-Germain will begin its Ligue 1 campaign away from home after the club’s scheduled opener at Parc des Princes was moved to Roazhon Park following an inspection that judged the pitch unsafe for players.
On 19 August a specialised bureau and a match delegate carried out a detailed check of the turf and concluded that, “in its current condition the pitch cannot guarantee the safety of the players.” The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) therefore decided to switch the venues rather than postpone the fixture.
Venue change and schedule details
The first-round match between PSG and Rennes had been scheduled for Sunday, 23 August at 20:45 local time in Paris, but will now be played at Rennes’ stadium. PSG informed the league about problems at Parc des Princes on 17 August, and the club said it is working on a replacement for the playing surface ahead of its next home games.
Officials pointed to the prolonged high temperatures across France during the summer as one of the factors behind the deterioration of the turf. Instead of cancelling the game, the LFP agreed that the two clubs would exchange home hosting: PSG will be the visiting team for the season opener, and the return fixture originally slated to take place in Brittany will be held in Paris.
Photos and clips shared on social media showed visible wear and dry patches on the pitch. A post on Twitter noted, “NEW: Parc des Princes’ pitch is in bad condition right now ahead of the start of Ligue 1. 🔴🔵” while another item accompanying images read, “Latest condition of the Parc des Princes turf. (Culture PSG).”
PSG described the club’s efforts to fix the situation as ongoing and said a solution to replace the Lawn at Parc des Princes has been found ahead of upcoming home matches, so supporters can expect the stadium to be ready once those works are completed.
