Raphinha to wear Barcelona captain's armband

September 5, 2026 — Coach Hansi Flick confirmed that Raphinha is Barcelona's new captain and will wear the armband for the coming season.
Flick announced the decision ahead of Barcelona's match against Valencia, which is scheduled for tomorrow in the fourth round of La Liga. The coach said the leadership change comes after a strong period for the Brazilian forward.
Raphinha has enjoyed excellent form in the Barcelona shirt and was one of the key players in the club's recent trophy-winning campaigns.
Lamine Yamal included among the captaincy group
Notably, 19-year-old Lamine Yamal has been included in the list of captains and is placed fifth in the hierarchy behind Raphinha and the other senior captains. The young winger has emerged as one of Barcelona's most important players in recent months.
In the most recent match against Rayo Vallecano both Raphinha and Yamal scored two goals each in a 5:2 victory. Barcelona travel to Valencia tomorrow for their La Liga fixture.
