Ramzan Kadyrov re-elected for fifth term in Chechnya with 99,85% of the vote
Kremlin-backed candidates swept Russia's three-day elections; United Russia will have a record 355 deputies in the new lower house.
Ramzan Kadyrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been re-elected as the leader of Chechnya for the fifth time, receiving 99,85% of the vote.
The vote in Chechnya came as Russia completed a three-day round of voting for the lower house of parliament, regional legislatures and governors.
Election sweep and exclusions
Kremlin-backed parties and candidates dominated the ballots, securing decisive victories after most anti-war contenders were barred from standing. The electoral environment left little space for organized opposition in many regions.
President Putin's party, United Russia, will hold a record 355 deputies in the next composition of the lower house of parliament, according to the official results released after the vote concluded.
Observers and critics say the bans on many anti-war candidates and the wide margin for regional incumbents like Kadyrov underscore the constrained nature of the contest across large parts of the country.
