The total value of goods exported from the country in the period January–August 2026 amounted to 5 738.7 million euros, an increase of 8.7% compared with the same period last year. Imports for the same interval reached 8 153.8 million euros, up 7.9% compared with January–August 2025.

Key trading partners and regional share
By total external trade volume for January–August 2026, the country traded most with Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Greece and Serbia — together they accounted for 49.7% of the total trade turnover. Member states of the European Union made up 58.5% of overall trade.
The gap between exports and imports continued in the first eight months of the year, with imports exceeding exports by roughly 2.4 billion euros. The trade structure highlights a strong orientation toward industrial and automotive-related goods on the export side and energy-related products and precious metals among imports.
The aggregated figures point to continued growth in cross-border commerce in 2026, driven both by higher shipments abroad and increased inward purchases. The distribution of trade by partner countries underlines the importance of EU markets and several large non-EU partners for the country's external commerce.
