The government's decision to name Arben Fetai as North Macedonia's special envoy to the European Union sparked immediate criticism from opposition figures and public commentators on July 30, 2026.
Monija Zajkova, MP and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said the move raises questions about accountability and public spending. "The government must not remain silent when it comes to public money," she said, announcing that she has submitted a formal question about "how much was paid to the former vice prime minister for good governance while he was not going to work." Zajkova added that LDP will seek institutional responsibility over the matter.
Critics voice concern on ethics and transparency
Professor Mirajna Najchevska, known for her outspoken criticism of public affairs, reacted on social media to Fetai's appointment, underscoring unease among civic commentators about the decision. Najchevska's post highlighted broader worries about the signals the appointment sends regarding standards in public office.
