Real Madrid officially unveiled Jose Mourinho behind closed doors

Real Madrid staged the official presentation of their new head coach, Jose Mourinho, on 18 August 2026 in a private ceremony at the club's Valdebebas training complex. Club president Florentino Pérez was present for the event.

Mourinho had already been working with the squad during the preseason and led Real through four friendlies against Fiorentina, Ferencváros, Deportivo La Coruña and Schalke, leaving the team unbeaten in those matches.

The formal presentation took place in a meeting room at Valdebebas where Pérez welcomed Mourinho before the paperwork was completed. Mourinho signed a three-year contract that keeps him at the club until 30 June 2029.

Gifts from the club

After the signing ceremony Real Madrid presented Mourinho with three gifts: a scale model of the club's stadium, a watch and a jersey bearing his name.

Rather than the customary public spectacle at the Santiago Bernabéu, the club held the promotion behind closed doors at Valdebebas without fans or a press conference, an unusual step for such an appointment.

Club sources say the private format marked the official confirmation of a coaching appointment that had already been apparent during the preseason preparations.
