Real Madrid demands removal of LaLiga president Javier Tebas

Real Madrid issued an official statement on September 22, 2026, condemning recent remarks by LaLiga president Javier Tebas and calling for leadership that can guarantee neutrality across the competition. The club said Tebas’s behaviour amounted to repeated public attacks on Real Madrid.
Club says conduct undermines LaLiga's image
In the statement the club wrote: "Our club considers it unacceptable that the president of LaLiga uses his institutional position to continue to discredit and attack Real Madrid in the way he does at every public appearance."
Real Madrid said it was particularly concerned that the person charged with representing and defending the interests of all clubs in LaLiga "continues to be obsessed with Real Madrid", turning the club into a constant target of his public criticism.
The immediate trigger for the club’s reaction was Tebas’s comment about an article by an independent journalist in a digital outlet. Real Madrid described his response as "especially serious and incomprehensible," and added that the LaLiga president went so far as to evaluate the club's sporting strategy. "This is total irresponsibility," the club said.
Real Madrid also criticised Tebas for using his personal channels and time to publicly attack the club instead of helping to build trust in institutions that should guarantee impartiality of the competition. The club argued such behaviour damages LaLiga’s and Spanish football’s image worldwide.
As a conclusion, Real Madrid said professional football in Spain urgently needs a leader who can carry out the required neutrality. "The president of LaLiga is not the owner of the competition, but a manager who serves the clubs that make it up and entrusted him with its management. We, the clubs, need someone who can honestly perform that mission," the statement said.
