During the live broadcast of the ceremony, Real's commentator praised Kane's career and acknowledged that Mbappé had strong arguments to win, but described Kane's triumph as fully deserved.
“Congratulations to Harry Kane. He is a fantastic footballer with an impressive career. Mbappé had grounds to hope for the prize, but Kane's victory is undoubtedly deserved,” the commentator said on the club channel.
Kane, the England striker of Bayern Munich, collected the prestigious individual honour ahead of Real Madrid's forward Kylian Mbappé.
Although many Real supporters had expected their player to take the award, the club broadcaster added that Mbappé will have further opportunities in the future.
