Rangers to give Bojan Miovski more minutes after Shankland injury

Rangers have altered their plans for Bojan Miovski after an injury to Lawrence Shankland, with the Scottish club prepared to give the Macedonian striker significantly more playing time in the coming months and to reconsider his future at Ibrox after the January transfer window.

Miovski fell down the pecking order over the summer following the arrivals of Shankland and Kevin Kelsy, and featured in only three of Rangers' opening 10 matches this season. Last campaign he scored 13 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.

The situation changed sharply when Shankland suffered a hamstring injury that could keep him sidelined for around three months. He joins Youssef Shermiti on the club's injury list, leaving Rangers with fewer attacking options.

Opportunity to stake a claim

Rangers now intend to hand Miovski more minutes; if he takes the opportunity and performs, the club is willing to consider keeping him at Ibrox beyond January. Miovski recently announced he had parted ways with his agent and will handle his career himself.

“His goals-per-game average in Scotland is very good. He trains excellently,” said the Rangers coach, who added that although it had looked like the Macedonian would leave, he is now glad to have Miovski, Kelsy and Ryan Naderi available.

The coming weeks will be decisive: increased playing time can both help Rangers cope with their short-term injury problems and give Miovski the platform to change the discussion about his future before the January window.
