Roberto Moreno named interim South Korea coach for six matches
The 48-year-old Spanish coach will lead South Korea for six fixtures through the end of November 2026 while the KFA seeks longer-term plans.
Roberto Moreno has been appointed interim head coach of the South Korea national football team, the Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on September 1, 2026.
Moreno, 48, signed a short-term contract and will lead the team for six matches through the end of November 2026. The first four fixtures are scheduled against Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela and Uzbekistan; the KFA is still seeking opponents for the November international window.
Immediate task: rebuild and prepare
The appointment follows the resignation of Myung-Bo Hong, who stepped down after South Korea’s elimination in the group stage of the World Cup. Moreno arrives with a brief calendar of friendlies and preparations as the federation looks to reset the squad.
Moreno brings a mix of club and international experience. He has managed AS Monaco, Granada and Russian side Sochi, and served as an assistant to Luis Enrique at both FC Barcelona and the Spain national team.
He also previously acted as Spain’s interim manager in 2019, temporarily replacing Luis Enrique. The KFA says the short-term deal is intended to provide continuity while it considers longer-term options for the national team.
