Romanian arrested at Tabanovce after driving at 163 km/h
H.V.S.(49) was detained after systems linked his Audi with Romanian plates to a recorded 163 km/h run on A1 where the limit is 80 km/h.
A Romanian national was arrested at the Tabanovce border crossing after police determined he had driven at 163 km/h on a motorway stretch with an 80 km/h limit.
Police said that on September 4, 2026 at 11:20 a.m., officers at Tabanovce, on the exit from the country, detained H.V.S.(49) from Romania. During an inspection of the Audi with Romanian plates he was driving, the “Safe City” system recorded him as the alleged perpetrator of the criminal offence of "reckless driving of a motor vehicle".
Speeding recorded earlier on the A1
According to the report, the excessive speed was detected earlier the same day: at 06:30 a.m. on the A1 motorway near Demir Kapija, H.V.S. was driving at 163 km/h in a zone where the maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h.
He was taken to the Police Station of General Jurisdiction Negotino for further procedure, and a criminal complaint will be filed against him.
The statement also notes that a Dutch national was previously arrested for speeding and that a Serbian woman was detained for the same reason. Many Serbian citizens returning from Greece have been fined recently for exceeding speed limits.
