Russia and Ukraine exchanged night strikes; Kyiv reports three dead

Russian and Ukrainian forces exchanged large-scale strikes during the night, with attacks reported on the Ukrainian capital and mass drone launches toward Moscow, officials in both cities said.

Vitali Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv, said Russian strikes started a series of fires in at least two neighborhoods of the Ukrainian capital. The attacks killed at least three people and left more than 10 injured; air raid sirens sounded at about 2:00 a.m.

Ukrainian authorities reported they had shot down three Russian missiles and almost 100 drones amid the night-time barrage, according to local briefings.

Claims of large drone waves toward Moscow

In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said roughly 600 Ukrainian drones were launched toward the Russian metropolis during the night. He reported that a warehouse owned by the Russian online retailer Wildberries was struck in the attacks.

"From last night until 6:30 a.m. this morning, 600 drones flew toward the Moscow Region, of which 201 were destroyed," Sobyanin wrote in a statement. He added that Moscow Region air defences destroyed 201 unmanned aerial vehicles and that most of the remaining drones were intercepted before entering built-up areas.

The exchanges come as Russia has stepped up air strikes across Ukraine in recent weeks, while Kyiv has intensified targeting of Russian logistics hubs to disrupt military transport.
