Russia unveils drone-boat for delivering election material to remote regions

Russia’s Central Election Commission has unveiled an unmanned “drone-boat” intended to carry ballots and other election materials into hard-to-reach settlements ahead of the country’s September parliamentary vote.
The commission’s head, Ella Pamfilova, highlighted the scale of the logistical challenge, saying there are 36 regions with remote communities where organizing voting “costs 400 to 500 times more” than the national average.
Officials say the drone-boat will join a range of transport options already used to serve isolated voters, including horse-drawn carts, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and motorboats.

Election administrators framed the addition of the drone-boat as part of efforts to ensure ballots and materials reach every eligible voter, no matter how inaccessible their location. They stress that different solutions are needed across vast and diverse territories.
