WHO warehouse struck near Kyiv during overnight airstrike
An overnight airstrike hit a WHO storage site in the Kyiv region; WHO says staff were not affected and alternative storage has been arranged.
One of the main World Health Organization (WHO) warehouses storing humanitarian medical supplies in Ukraine was hit overnight during an airstrike in the Kyiv region, the agency said today.
“Access to the site remains restricted because of smoke and security concerns, while assessments of possible damage and loss of stocks are underway. No WHO staff were affected,” WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said.
The strike follows an August attack on a WHO humanitarian warehouse in the southern city of Dnipro that led to the loss of half of medical stocks and equipment meant to support about 225,000 people living on the front lines and in hard‑to‑reach areas.
Repeated hits endanger relief operations
Lindmeier also recalled that another warehouse used by WHO near Kyiv was damaged during a heavy wave of strikes on the capital and surrounding region in July. He warned that these incidents are part of a wider pattern disrupting humanitarian work across Ukraine.
“The attacks are part of a broader pattern affecting humanitarian operations across the country. In 2026, at least 20 attacks hit warehouses for humanitarian supplies, including 15 attacks on warehouses that held humanitarian medical supplies,” Lindmeier told reporters in Geneva.
WHO said it has already identified alternative storage arrangements following the most recent incidents, as authorities and partners continue assessments of damage and losses to the supplies.
