The Danish Armed Forces said the frigate "fired two rockets at the helicopter. One of them passed a short distance from the helicopter." The statement described the ordnance as signal rockets rather than weapons intended to strike the aircraft.
The episode occurred over waters near Denmark's southern shore and was quickly registered by Danish military authorities, who notified national security officials in Copenhagen.
European capitals have increasingly accused Moscow of mounting a hybrid campaign aimed at destabilising the continent, while at the same time continuing its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The latest incident adds to a string of tense encounters between Russian vessels and NATO partners in northern European waters.
Danish authorities have not publicly announced further operational or diplomatic measures following the incident. Officials in Copenhagen will now assess the facts and decide whether to raise the matter with NATO and other international partners.
