Russian strikes kill at least five across Ukraine

At least five people were killed and more than 20 wounded in a new round of Russian strikes across Ukraine, officials from several regions said on Thursday.

Two people died in the capital Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said; he added on Telegram that at least 22 people were wounded as a result of the attacks. Other strikes hit cities and towns from the northeast to the Black Sea coast.

Damage and casualties reported in multiple regions

In Sumy in north-eastern Ukraine, the regional military governor Oleg Hryhorov reported strikes on four locations that damaged residential areas and civilian infrastructure; one person was injured there. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said one person was killed and several others wounded in overnight attacks. In the nearby town of Izium eight people were injured and shelling caused power outages in several neighbourhoods.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, military governor Mykhailo Semikin said one person was killed in the settlement of Kushuhum. Along the Odesa region on the Black Sea, Governor Oleg Kiper reported that a cargo ship sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was struck; the ship's Ukrainian captain was killed and the remainder of the crew were evacuated after fires were brought under control. Kiper said warehouses for medicines, household goods and food were also hit twice in a short period.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said it had struck a warehouse near Kyiv used for drone parts and a weapons factory. It also said forces hit three logistics centres in the Odesa region containing military or dual‑use goods and a warehouse of drone components, and confirmed the strike on the ship, claiming it had been carrying military cargo bound for Odesa.

Information from both sides could not be independently verified, DPA noted. Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian forces for more than four and a half years with Western financial and military support.
