Russian strikes hit Kyiv: 25-storey building damaged, bridges closed
A 25-storey residential tower in Darnytskyi was damaged; the Southern and Paton bridges were closed after overnight attacks.

Overnight Russian strikes damaged a 25-storey residential tower in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, and local officials said one person was killed in the attack during the night into October 2, 2026.
Key crossings closed after new strikes
Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the Southern Bridge was hit again by Russian forces after previous drone attacks targeted the crossing the day before. The city administration announced closures and traffic restrictions at several major river crossings.
The Southern Bridge and the Paton Bridge were closed to traffic in both directions following the overnight strikes, while the Metro Bridge was closed in the direction toward Kyiv’s right bank, the Kyiv City State Administration said.
Because of the restrictions, several bus routes were rerouted via the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi bridges. Officials said there were no reports that the Paton or Metro bridges had been struck.
Social media posts captured the moment of impact on the Southern Bridge. One post read: "Kyiv. Moment of impact on the Southern Bridge."
There are differences in the published casualty figures: local statements cited one fatality and two injured, while other posts reported at least 15 people wounded. The latest strike follows repeated Russian attacks on the capital on October 1, 2026.
