U.S. again struck targets in Iran after multi-day pause
CENTCOM says the strikes were a response to Iranian attempts to rocket U.S. bases; command centers, missile and drone facilities and coastal defense sites were hit.
30 July 2026 — After nearly a week without strikes, U.S. military forces again carried out strikes on targets in Iran, saying the action was a response to Iranian attempts to rocket U.S. bases in the region.

The regional command CENTCOM early in the morning on the X platform announced that it had "successfully" completed its new series of strikes on Iran. The statement says that among the struck sites were military command centers, missile and drone facilities, as well as coastal surveillance and defense sites. The command described the attack as an "intense" wave offensive and said it represented a response to Iranian attempts the previous day to rocket U.S. forces.
Iranian state media carried a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) saying that the previous Iranian attack had been aimed at a U.S. military base in Jordan. CENTCOM, for its part, said that all rockets were intercepted.
The U.S. Army said the purpose of the counterstrikes was further to reduce "the threats that Iran and its allied groups pose to U.S. armed forces, commercial shipping and neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf." Iranian media also reported several explosions in the southern parts of the country.
Meanwhile, U.S. media report growing concern within the administration about possible escalation and the depletion of ammunition reserves; in particular, shortages of air-defense munitions such as those for the Patriot system have been mentioned. The U.S. military had been striking targets in Iran at night for nearly two weeks, until last Friday when a pause was declared, which according to President Donald Trump was meant to give the ongoing negotiations another chance; Trump said: "The war will end soon."
In addition, on Tuesday the United States together with Saudi Arabia carried out strikes on positions of pro-Iranian militias in Iraq. CENTCOM assessed that these were precise strikes on logistics centers and weapons depots; the U.S. and Saudi Arabia accused those militias — whose identification was not released in official reports — of more than 30 drone attacks in recent days and of acting on orders from the IRGC. Furthermore, in recent days it was reported that a drone struck a U.S. tanker in the Egyptian port of Damietta, illustrating the spread of the clashes across multiple theaters and the risk of further escalation.
