Salah presented with land by Trabzon mayor after fan-filled welcome
The new signing received a plot of land from Trabzon’s mayor after a crowd of some 20,000 welcomed him; his contract and financing details were announced alongside the ceremony.
Mohamed Salah's arrival in Trabzon was accompanied by an unusually warm civic gesture: the city's mayor personally handed the new signing a parcel of land as a present, and publicly framed it as a legacy for the player's descendants.
According to the details released around the transfer, Salah will earn €23,000,000 in the first year of a two-year contract — a deal that makes him one of the highest-paid players in European football. The club plans to cover those costs almost exclusively through sales of shirts bearing his name, and Salah himself retains a significant share of the associated marketing revenues.
Mayor offers a place ‘protected from climate change’
The mayor of Trabzon, Hüseyin Avni Çebi, led Salah to a prominent site in the city and offered the land as a gift. Speaking at the handover, the mayor said: "We give you a beautiful piece of land as a gift. That way we will leave your children and grandchildren a nice place not affected by climate change in the future."
The reception in the stands at Şenol Güneş Stadium was extraordinary: around 20,000 supporters turned out to greet Salah after his signing, underscoring the excitement his arrival has already generated in the Black Sea city.
All of this took place before his official debut in the Trabzonspor shirt. Salah is scheduled to make his first appearance on the field on Friday at 19:00, when Trabzonspor visit Göztepe in Izmir in the opening round of the Turkish Super League.
