Sampdoria face third-tier danger as fans protest at sporting director's home

Former Serie A champions Sampdoria are facing the prospect of dropping into Italy's third tier as supporter anger boiled over this weekend with a protest outside the home of the club's sporting director.

The Genoa side, now in Serie B, have struggled this season and sit second-from-bottom in the 20-team table after collecting only five points from nine matches — a collapse that has turned long-time fans hostile toward the club's leadership.

Supporters left a banner and a poured bag of excrement outside the sporting director's house to make their discontent clear. The banner carried an insulting message aimed at the director: "Fredberg, enjoy, you s***." Fans blame the current management for the team's decline on and off the pitch.

Fans demand changes

Protesters said their actions were aimed at forcing accountability from those in charge of transfers and team strategy. The demonstrations come amid growing frustration over results, squad building and what many supporters describe as a loss of identity for a club that once competed regularly in the top flight.

The confrontation was captured on social media on October 30, 2026, and quickly circulated among Sampdoria fan groups. Club officials have not issued a public response to the actions outside the sporting director's home.
