Saša Ilic to remain Partizan coach despite offering resignation
After offering his resignation following the loss at Mladost Lucani, Saša Ilic was persuaded by club officials to stay on at least until the Getafe return leg.

On 29 August 2026 Partizan will keep Saša Ilic in charge despite his offer to step down following a heavy defeat in the Serbian league. The club's management convinced the coach to remain at least until the return leg against Getafe, citing the upcoming European fixture as a key reason.
The decision came after Partizan dropped points away at Mladost Lucani in a match that prompted strong criticism and saw Ilic submit his resignation. Club officials held urgent talks with the coach and, according to the club, the atmosphere at the stadium and visible backing from supporters influenced Ilic's choice to continue.
Supporters' reaction weighed heavily
Even after elimination by Getafe from European competition and an unconvincing start in the domestic championship, Ilic defended the team's style and intent. After the game he told reporters: "That's exactly the kind of Partizan I want to watch." The quote underlined the coach's belief in the squad despite recent results.
The club also announced there will be no immediate changes in the board. Management sources say a general assembly is planned for the end of September, where longer-term decisions about leadership and sporting direction could be discussed.
Earlier this week the club completed a transfer: Ostoja Stjepanovic sold Ugresic to PAOK. That move is the latest in a string of changes as Partizan tries to stabilise results while preparing for the Getafe rematch.
For now, the focus at Partizan will be preparing the team for the European return leg and addressing weaknesses exposed in the domestic campaign, with Ilic staying on the bench until at least the scheduled rematch with Getafe.
