Sasa Ognenovski appointed head coach of Macarthur Bulls
Former Australia international and Preston Lions assistant takes on his first major managerial role.
Macarthur Bulls have named Sasa Ognenovski as their new head coach, the club announced following the departure of Mile Sterjovski. Ognenovski, a former Australia international of Macedonian origin, steps into what is described as his first major managerial position.
Until now Ognenovski served as the first-team assistant at Preston Lions, a club known for its Macedonian community ties in Australia. His promotion to the top job at Macarthur represents a significant career milestone after years working as an assistant.
Change after three seasons
Ognenovski won 22 caps for Australia during his playing career and also had spells with clubs in South Korea. His international experience and time in various leagues were highlighted as assets for his new role at Macarthur.
He replaces Mile Sterjovski, also of Macedonian background and a former Australia international, who served as Macarthur Bulls' head coach from 2023 to 2026. The club has opted for continuity in appointing another coach with strong links to the Australian–Macedonian football community.
The appointment is presented as a fresh challenge for Ognenovski and a new chapter for Macarthur Bulls as they prepare for the next season under new leadership.
