SDSM: Prosecutors silent over Novo Selo attack, those involved must answer
SDSM says prosecutors must open an investigation immediately and verify names allegedly connected to the attack in Novo Selo.
SDSM accused the Public Prosecutor's Office of failing to act after an attack on young people in Novo Selo and urged an immediate investigation without waiting for a formal complaint.
At a press briefing, SDSM spokesperson Keti Shterjova said there is already public information and knowledge about the incident, including names of people allegedly involved. "There is knowledge. There are public statements. There are requests. There are names. And the Prosecutor's Office — is silent," she said.
The opposition party named two individuals it says are among those allegedly involved: Petar Markov, a Member of Parliament from VMRO-DPMNE, and Nasko Dimitriev, a party member who is the mayor's driver. SDSM asked state bodies to verify the claims and determine whether these people or others bear criminal responsibility for the attack.
SDSM demanded that the authorities proceed ex officio and determine exactly what happened in Novo Selo, who took part in the incident and whether there are grounds for criminal liability. The party stressed that the case cannot be allowed to remain unresolved by institutions.
Shterjova also criticized the functioning of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Public Prosecutor, accusing them of failing to respond properly when citizens seek institutional protection. "This is a deliberate refusal to protect citizens when the perpetrators are from the ruling structure," Shterjova said.
At the end of the briefing the opposition warned that they will continue to press for answers and signalled that, as they put it, "the time will come when this too will have to be explained."
