SDSM files interpellation against Minister Ivan Stoilkovic

The SDSM parliamentary group formally submitted an interpellation to the Assembly today targeting Ivan Stoilkovic, the current Minister of Local Self-Government and a former deputy prime minister. The opposition demands political accountability, alleging his conduct toward lawmakers and political activity undermine the country’s national and strategic interests.

What the interpellation says

At a press briefing, SDSM MP Mitko Trajchuleski said the petition lists what the party calls unacceptable behaviour toward MPs and actions that run counter to state priorities. The party also accuses Stoilkovic of ties to Serbian intelligence services and of engaging in appearances and initiatives linked to Russia.

Trajchuleski added that the interpellation questions Stoilkovic’s recent trip to China and his public presence with the SNS delegation and Aleksandar Vučić. "We also raise the question of his trip to China and his appearance with the SNS delegation and Vučić. The interpellation also covers content that glorifies Ratko Mladić, convicted of genocide. People who glorify convicted war criminals and relativize war crimes should not and must not hold public office. Especially since in this particular case there is also a criminal offense under the Criminal Code concerning the approval or justification of genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes," he said.

SDSM says the minister attended an event with a Serbian politician known for praising Ratko Mladić, and that such conduct is incompatible with holding public office. The opposition is asking the parliamentary majority to decide whether it will protect the dignity of the Assembly and state interests or shield the minister.

The interpellation also lists insults and threats allegedly directed at SDSM MPs, including Fatmir Bitici, Trajchuleski himself and MP Arbana Pasholi. Trajchuleski stressed that "A minister has an obligation to answer to the Assembly and accept parliamentary criticism. When, in response to questions and critiques, he responds with threats, he tramples the dignity of the institution and shows that he is not worthy of the position. Stoilkovic was never called to account, nor did he ever personally apologize."

Separately, officials from the SDSM side said Stoilkovic addressed abusive language to Bitici and Trajchuleski and that they expect a reaction from Gashi, a government official responsible for oversight. The interpellation is framed by SDSM as a matter of state dignity and sovereignty and seeks an immediate change in his post.
