SDSM: Because of a contested tender tied to Klekovski and Mickoski, water is unsafe in over 50 settlements

SDSM says drinking water in more than 50 settlements across North Macedonia is currently unsafe and that the list of affected localities is growing every day.

The opposition party also says the official water report for Gostivar — the document that, it claims, was approved, signed and which guarantees that "the 'technical water' is safe" — still has not been published.

Party leaders blamed for alleged failings around a contested tender

In its statement, SDSM accused the so‑called patriots Klekovski and Mickoski of responsibility for the situation, linking the contamination to decisions tied to a tender. The party demanded immediate transparency about the procedures and full publication of the Gostivar findings.

SDSM repeated that more than 50 populated places currently lack safe drinking water and warned that the list grows daily, calling on authorities to provide clear information about which systems are affected and what short‑ and long‑term measures will be taken.

The party also referenced recent reports that the outbreak in Gostivar is calming but stressed that the water there “is still not safe to drink,” and said that publishing the test report is essential for public trust and for holding those responsible to account.

SDSM asked for an independent review of the tender process and for officials who approved and signed the contested documents to explain the basis on which assurances about water safety were given.
