Seven people died and dozens were wounded after a drone struck a beach in southern Russia, local officials said. Authorities reported that three of the dead were children; a total of 40 people were injured and 17 were hospitalized.
Footage circulating on social media and verified by the BBC shows a small aerial device approaching a rocky outcrop before falling and detonating on the sand as beachgoers watched from the shore and water.
Regional governor accuses Ukraine
Veniyamin Kondratyev, the governor of the Krasnodar region, blamed Ukraine and described the incident as "a deliberate attack on civilians." Ukraine did not comment on the allegation.
Local officials added that emergency services were working at the scene to care for the wounded and to secure the area; 17 of the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Both sides deny that they intentionally targeted civilians, authorities said, and investigations into the strike were ongoing as investigators examined the footage and gathered evidence from the scene.
