Family consent leads to two transplants, Ministry of Health says
The Ministry says family consent allowed operations that gave two patients a new lease on life ahead of World Organ Donation Day on August 13.
A family’s consent to organ donation led to transplants that have given two patients a renewed chance at life, the Ministry of Health announced. The statement was released ahead of World Organ Donation Day on August 13.
“There are decisions that change the meaning of the word 'life'. Decisions made in the hardest moments, when the pain is greatest, and yet the heart chooses to give consent. It is precisely such a decision, made by one family last month, that today means a new beginning for two patients. With their humane consent for organ donation, a transplant was performed – and two lives received a new, quality continuation,” the ministry said.
Ministry thanks donor family, urges awareness
The Ministry thanked the family for their humane decision and said it joins the global campaign to raise awareness about the importance of donating organs. The ministry’s public note did not specify what types of transplants were performed.
Professor Dr. Biljana Kuzmanovska, the national coordinator for transplantation, emphasized the human choice behind every operation: “Behind every transplant stands a team, but above all stands one humane decision. That decision is what makes the miracle of new life possible.”
The ministry also published waiting-list figures: 29 patients are waiting for a heart transplant, 12 for a liver and 160 for a kidney. Kuzmanovska reiterated that organ donation is a voluntary act that saves lives.
