Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS put Lausanne on the market

Co-owner of Manchester United Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his company INEOS have placed Swiss club Lausanne up for sale, marking another step in a broader pullback from parts of their sports portfolio. (26.10.2026 21:30)

INEOS has appointed consultancy Alvarez & Marsal to seek potential buyers and has prepared a sales presentation under the name "Project Striker". The materials stress the club's infrastructure and its potential to reach European competitions.

Background and performance

The documentation highlights sporting and infrastructural assets but omits detailed references to financial losses and the fact that Lausanne currently occupy last place in the Swiss championship. The club was INEOS's first major football investment after the company took over in 2017.

The planned sale follows an earlier move in which INEOS put French club Nice on the market. In recent months the company has also ended several sponsorship agreements, signalling a change of strategy and a reduction of its sporting holdings.

Ratcliffe, who holds a minority stake in Manchester United and plays a significant role in running the club's football operations, has faced growing criticism over Manchester United's results. The Lausanne listing is the latest development as INEOS reshapes its football investments.
