Vardar 1961 opens North Macedonia Super League season tonight

Champion Vardar 1961 will kick off the 2026/27 Macedonian men’s Handball Super League on September 4, 2026, when they host E. Pelister 2 at 18:00 in the season’s opening match.

The top flight will again feature 12 clubs. After the regular phase the teams will be split into play-off and play-out groups, with results from head-to-head matches carried over into the next stage.

The traditional “big four” — Vardar, E. Pelister, Ohrid and Alkaloid — arrive in the new campaign strengthened and expected to contest the title. Attention has also focused on the return of coach Lino Červar, who has taken charge of Bitola’s side, known locally as the "green‑whites."

There are already notable fixtures in the opening round: Ohrid will host E. Pelister at the Biljanini Izvori arena on Sunday, September 6, 2026, while Alkaloid begins the season against its sister club Multi Esens.
