Sheikh Jasim bin Hamad Al Thani offers 10 billion euros to buy FC Barcelona

Sheikh Jasim bin Hamad Al Thani has emerged as a serious suitor for FC Barcelona, offering an extraordinary sum of 10 billion euros to take control of the Catalan club.

The proposal comes after an earlier, unsuccessful attempt by the same Qatari investor to acquire Manchester United. Insiders say he has redirected his acquisition plans toward Barcelona, a club that has struggled with heavy debts in recent years and would see a dramatic financial turnaround if the transaction proceeds.

What the figure would mean

An offer of 10 billion euros would far outstrip typical valuations in world football and — if completed — would rank among the largest single investments in sport history. For Barcelona, such capital would not only allow debt restructuring but also create a transfer and operating budget on a scale the club has not seen for years.

Sportingly, the injection of funds could change Barcelona’s short- and long-term strategy: the team could compete again for the game’s top players, and the club’s leadership would gain room to pursue structural rebuilding rather than short-term compromises.

Jasim bin Hamad Al Thani (born 25 August 1978) is a member of the Qatari royal family. He serves as personal representative of the Emir of Qatar and is currently president of Qatar Islamic Bank. He completed his formal education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom and has previously been a member of the board of directors of Credit Suisse Group.
