Shelton and Zverev in battle for the US Open trophy
Shelton defeated Frances Tiafoe to reach his first Grand Slam final; Zverev eliminated Karen Khachanov and will seek a second title.
12.09.2026 — Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev will meet in the final of the season's last Grand Slam, the US Open in New York, after winning their semifinal matches.
Shelton advanced to his first Grand Slam final after defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe 3-1. He lost the first set 6-4 but then staged a comeback to win the next three sets 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5, playing solidly at key moments and using his strong serve to break Tiafoe's resistance.
The 23-year-old American earlier eliminated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, confirming his form ahead of the final.
Zverev's path to the final
Alexander Zverev reached the final after triumphing over Karen Khachanov in three sets, 6-3, 7-6 and 7-6. The German will now compete for his second Grand Slam title in New York.
The final will pit American hopeful Shelton against second seed Zverev; a potential title for Shelton would be the first for an American man at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2003.
