Škoda recalls 1.7 million cars worldwide over steering defect
Recall affects Kodiaq, Karoq, Octavia and Superb; fix replaces a steering‑mechanism screw with a corrosion‑resistant part.

Škoda is recalling about 1.7 million vehicles worldwide because of a potential steering defect that could lead to loss of steering control. The move comes days after Volkswagen and its brands Audi and SEAT announced large-scale recalls for the same issue.
The recall covers Škoda models Kodiaq, Karoq, Octavia and Superb produced by the Czech subsidiary of Volkswagen.
Details of the fault and the fix
According to the recall information recorded by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), a broken screw in the steering mechanism could cause the steering to fail. As a corrective measure, the screw on the steering mechanism must be replaced with a corrosion‑resistant screw.
Volkswagen said in a company statement that internal quality checks had identified a possible steering issue in certain vehicles across several model series. A Volkswagen spokesperson confirmed the problem was detected during those checks but did not provide further details.
Škoda’s recall follows the broader action by the Volkswagen Group affecting multiple brands; the manufacturer and dealers are expected to implement the screw replacement as the remedy for affected cars.
