A school coach carrying German high‑school students overturned after colliding with a delivery van on the A28 motorway in the east of the Netherlands in the early hours of Monday, August 24, 2026, leaving dozens of pupils injured and eight people hospitalised.
The crash happened near the town of Wezep at about 04:15 local time, when the bus left its lane after the collision and flipped across onto the opposite carriageway; some reports put the time at approximately 04:00. The group was travelling from Germany to Paris.
On board were 54 students and four teachers from the Probstej high school in Shenberg. In total, 45 pupils suffered injuries, most of them minor; seven passengers from the coach and the driver of the van were taken to hospital in Zwolle, bringing the number admitted to eight.
Nearly all passengers received on‑scene medical checks; many had cuts and scrapes caused by broken glass. Around 40–45 pupils with light injuries were moved to the Erika Terpstra sports hall in Wezep for further examination and care. School authorities said the injured students are in stable condition and that parents or guardians were informed.
Red Cross teams, firefighters, multiple ambulances and medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene, and police have opened an investigation into the circumstances and cause of the accident.
