Injury blow in Milan: Inter to be without Lautaro Martínez for several weeks

Inter's leading striker, Lautaro Martínez, will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering an injury to the muscle of his left thigh, the club has confirmed.

Impact on the calendar

The timing of the injury is particularly bad for Inter: the Milan derby is scheduled for 31 October, and Martínez is almost certain to miss that match because the layoff will last a minimum of 20 days.

Coach Cristian Kivu must reshuffle his options in attack for upcoming Serie A fixtures against Bologna, Fiorentina and Venezia, and for Inter's UEFA Champions League tie with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The club hopes Martínez will not join the Argentina national team during the international window, allowing him to recover without extra travel and preparation so he can be available for the match against Atalanta that follows the break.

Inter will monitor the forward's rehabilitation closely and provide updates on his recovery timetable as medical assessments continue.
