A powerful storm that swept across central and southern Chile left at least two people dead and hundreds more affected by floods and strong winds.
Authorities report multiple injuries and stranded residents
The fatalities were confirmed in the Los Ríos region. Deputy Interior Minister Maksimo Paves said the deaths were caused by "a tree falling on their car."
The National Directorate of the Disaster Prevention and Response Service reported 347 people injured and 2,052 residents trapped inside their homes, mostly due to swollen rivers. The agency also issued 13 evacuation alerts amid flooding and gusts exceeding 100 kilometres per hour.
Regions placed on heightened alert include Maule and Los Lagos, where emergency teams have been mobilised to assist isolated communities and clear damaged roads.
The latest storm follows a deadly system in July that killed 13 people and damaged at least 4,000 houses, underscoring the vulnerability of some southern Chilean communities to extreme weather events.
