All social assistance recipients received payments through Alta Bank; special counters to open from tomorrow

All recipients of social assistance in North Macedonia have been receiving their payments through Alta Bank. The Minister of Labour says that, in coordination with the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia (NBRM), authorities are preparing from tomorrow a way for beneficiaries to collect the full amounts owed to them over the counter.

Special counters and single withdrawals

The plan foresees opening dedicated bank counters for social assistance recipients and for pensioners. Pensioners will be able to withdraw up to 20,000 denars in a single transaction at the counter.

Officials clarified that the single-withdrawal limit of 20,000 denars applies only to pensioners and only to those who do not hold an ATM card.

The Minister of Labour described the measure as an operational step in coordination with the NBRM to ensure people can access funds they are owed at bank branches and over-the-counter points.

Further practical details — including which branches will open special counters and how queues will be managed — were not specified in the initial announcement.

Authorities said the arrangement is to start from tomorrow and is intended to let beneficiaries receive their full social assistance payments directly at the counter.
