Skopje to build roundabout and new steel bridge for Saraj entrance
When opened, the existing bridge will be reserved for buses; the new boulevard route spans 1,172 metres and includes bike, pedestrian and tactile paths.
The City of Skopje will build a new roundabout and a steel bridge at the entrance to Saraj, municipal officials have announced. Once the new bridge is opened, the existing crossing will be used exclusively for buses.
The plan foresees a roundabout with two traffic lanes and a steel bridge measuring 110 meters in length. The complete boulevard solution — including the roundabout and the bridge — will extend 1,172 meters.
Design for pedestrians, cyclists and people with visual impairments
On both sides of the new bridge, the project includes dedicated bicycle and pedestrian paths. Tactile strips for blind and visually impaired people will also be constructed to improve accessibility.
City planners say the new route is intended to streamline traffic flow into Saraj and separate bus movements by converting the current bridge to a bus-only link. The dual-lane roundabout is expected to handle turning movements more efficiently than the current intersection.
Work timelines and the contractor have not been specified in the announcement. Municipal authorities say detailed construction and traffic-management plans will follow as the project advances.
