Skopje resumes mass cleanup — Mayor Orce Gjorgievski announces action at 50+ sites

Skopje's mayor, Orce Gjorgievski, announced that the largest ecological cleanup campaign in the city — which began in late September — continues today at more than 50 locations across the capital. Teams will focus on parks, streets, pedestrian paths, public areas and spaces between residential buildings.

Thousands of volunteers are expected to take part. The action is scheduled to start at 11:00 and will include participation from municipal teams and mayors, school pupils and local residents.

“People of different generations and professions, united around the desire for a cleaner, more beautiful and healthier Skopje! Let's gather where we live every day, move and make memories. Let's take care of the places where our children play and show them what it means to be responsible toward their city. Let's leave an example, not trash — Skopje is once again coming together in the largest eco-action to date!” Gjorgievski said.

Organisation and recurring schedule

According to the mayor, the cleanups will be organised at dozens of designated spots across the city with local coordinators assigning meeting points and tasks. The initiative aims both to remove accumulated waste and to encourage civic responsibility in public spaces.

“We will be persistent, we will gather again and build a tradition of solidarity and responsibility. To irresponsibility we will respond with personal example. I believe in the people of Skopje,” Gjorgievski added, and he stressed that such actions will be held twice a month.

Officials say the campaign combines municipal crews and community volunteers to improve everyday environments and the places where children play. Residents were invited to join today's round of cleaning and to help turn the effort into a lasting local tradition.
