Slavisa Jokanovic has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Swiss side FC Basel, the club confirmed on 25 September 2026.
The former Partizan Belgrade first-team player and Yugoslavia international returns to the touchline with one of Europe's most trophy-rich clubs after a long managerial career abroad.
Past managerial experience
Jokanovic has led teams across several countries, bringing experience from spells at Al-Nassr, Fulham, Dynamo Moscow, Sheffield, Watford and Maccabi Tel Aviv. His résumé as both player and coach was cited as a key reason for Basel's decision.
Reports had linked Jokanovic with a return to Serbia — notably as a candidate for the Partizan coaching job — but the 25 September announcement confirmed he will instead take charge in Switzerland for the upcoming season.
FC Basel published the news on its official channels, marking the start of a new chapter for a club that has a long record of domestic titles and regular European competition appearances.
Expectations will be high at St. Jakob-Park as supporters and club officials await Jokanovic's first training sessions and his initial squad decisions ahead of competitive matches.
