Slovenian president Nataša Pirc Musar lightly injured in traffic accident

Slovenian president Nataša Pirc Musar was lightly injured in a road traffic accident on Friday and taken straight to the hospital in Izola for medical checks, officials said.

The head of state underwent the necessary examinations at the Izola hospital and, according to the state broadcaster, she is expected to be released today to continue recovery at home.

The collision happened in the Kastelec tunnel on the Primorska highway while the president was returning from a holiday in Croatia.

Alongside President Pirc Musar, one other person involved in the crash suffered more serious injuries and required additional treatment.

Authorities have so far reported the basic circumstances of the accident and the condition of those involved; further details about the cause of the crash and the status of the other injured person have not been made public.

The president’s schedule and any changes to her official duties following the incident have not yet been announced.
