Assembly adopts National Road Safety Strategy 2026–2030 and more than 40 laws

The Assembly of North Macedonia this afternoon approved the National Road Safety Strategy 2026–2030 and more than 40 laws adopted under a shortened procedure.

Lawmakers voted the package in a session that included no substantive debate on the bills. The measures were presented as technical adjustments needed to align existing legislation with the Law on Senior Executives.

Strategy and legal changes adopted together

The government’s road safety plan for 2026–2030 was presented in parliament as a strategic framework of integrated measures and activities intended to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries in traffic accidents and to build safer, more efficient and sustainable road infrastructure.

Alongside the strategy, deputies approved over 40 laws, several of which were described as harmonising changes. Parliamentary coordinators said the purpose of those changes is to establish a unified system for the selection, appointment, conditions and accountability of senior executive civil servants in the state administration and public funds, with the goal of improving leadership and management.

MPs from SDSM voted against every law in the package. Coordinator Oliver Spasovski explained his parliamentary group’s opposition, saying: "со предложените 44 закони се врши усогласување за конкретни лица кои раководат со институции и кои немаат специфично образование во областа."

The bills were approved without discussion and the Assembly recorded the adoption of the strategy and the legislative amendments during the afternoon sitting.
