Sonja Tarchulovska recalls 2013 terrace fall that caused serious injuries

Popular folk singer Sonja Tarchulovska reopened the topic of a serious accident she suffered more than a decade ago, when she fell from the terrace of her first-floor apartment and was rushed to hospital with major injuries.

The fall took place in 2013. Hospital records and press reports at the time said she sustained a fracture to her pelvis and to her spinal column and was immediately admitted to the emergency unit of the Clinical Center in Skopje.

Injury, speculation and a public response

In the days after the accident, rumours spread that she had been pushed — and that her husband, Johan Tarchulovski, was involved. Those claims circulated widely in the media and online.

Tarchulovska later addressed the public via her Facebook page. In a post she insisted her husband had not thrown her: "You may dream of having a marriage like ours and you would never have coped with the trials we have been through." Johan Tarchulovski also spoke to the press, saying he was not at home at the time of the incident and accusing his political opponents of spreading the speculation.

Despite the severity of the injuries and the long recovery, Tarchulovska — who first appeared on stage at age 15 — remained connected to music. Reflecting on her career she said, translated from a past interview, that success is personal proof of persistence and courage: "Success is personal proof that you were persistent and persevering, ambitious and brave..." She added that she planned to celebrate her 30-year jubilee with many performances and that one of her songs, "Vo belo," remained timeless for her.

The story returned to public attention recently as the singer has resumed musical activities after years focused on family life. Fans still remember several of her hits that are commonly played at celebrations.
