SONK holds 8th congress; Stojko Ramov is sole candidate for president
Single candidate Stojko Ramov is expected to be confirmed as president as outgoing leader Jakim Nedelkov steps down after 15 years.

On October 16, 2026 the Independent Trade Union of Education, Science and Culture (SONK) held its eighth congress, where delegates are set to appoint a new leadership team.
There is a single candidate for the position of president: Stojko Ramov. Delegates met during the day and organisers said Ramov is expected to be confirmed as the union's new president.
Leadership change after 15 years
The current president, Jakim Nedelkov, is stepping down after serving in the role for 15 years. His departure opens the way for a new generation of union leaders at SONK.
Ramov, the sole registered candidate, has pledged to continue advocating for workers' rights and for improved working conditions in education and culture. His campaign emphasises continuity of the union's core goals.
Delegates at the congress will also select other members of the executive board and discuss priorities for the union's next mandate.
