Serbia defeated by Netherlands in Belgrade as Merdink scores twice

Serbia 1–2 Netherlands — Serbia suffered a second defeat in the UEFA Nations League after losing at home in Belgrade to the Netherlands, who won 2:1 in the second round of Group 2 in League A on 27.09.2026.

Match events and decisive moments

The visitors opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Meks Merdink converted a penalty after Aleksa Terzic brought down Samervil inside the box. Serbia responded immediately after the break: Luka Jovic levelled in the 46th minute following a move involving Tadić, Živković and Pavlović.

Netherlands restored their lead in the 69th minute when Merdink struck again to secure the win. With the reverse in Belgrade, Serbia remain pointless after two rounds, having lost their opening match to Greece 2:1. The Netherlands recorded their first victory in the group after opening with a 1:1 draw against Germany.

Elsewhere in League A, Denmark notched their first Nations League victory of the season, beating Wales 2:0 at home. The scoring began in the 53rd minute with an unfortunate own goal by Wales captain Ben Davies, and Gustav Isaksen doubled the advantage in the 66th minute.

Denmark had lost their opening game 3:2 to Norway and the three points against Wales lift them back into contention in the group. Wales, having narrowly lost to Portugal in their opening fixture, remain without points after two matches.

In other Nations League results, Austria defeated Kosovo 3:1 in the B segment, and Gibraltar and Andorra played out a 0:0 draw in the D segment on the same matchday.
