Strumica firefighters rescue mother and child from ravine near monastery trail
A rescue team reached and extracted the victims from an inaccessible ravine near the path to St. Ilija Monastery; both were transferred to emergency medical services.
Firefighters from Strumica rescued a mother and her child early on Sunday after they fell into a ravine beside the trim trail that leads up to the St. Ilija Monastery.
The Territorial Firefighting Unit Strumica said the rescue operation began at about 05:15, when a team of firefighter-rescuers was dispatched to the scene.
Specialised gear used to reach inaccessible terrain
On arrival, crews used specialised rescue equipment to reach the pair in the difficult terrain and extract them safely. After the rescue, the mother and child were handed over to an Emergency Medical Service team for further examination and care.
"Thanks to the swift, professional and coordinated intervention, the rescue operation was successfully completed," the Territorial Firefighting Unit Strumica said.
The unit also issued a warning to people who use trim trails and mountain paths to move with caution, particularly during early morning and night hours, to avoid similar accidents.
