Two tourist vessels collided on August 11, 2026, near the islet of Antipaxos in the Ionian Sea close to the island of Corfu. The incident took place in coastal waters used regularly by excursion boats, and initial reports describe the contact as a collision between the two ships.
One of the vessels was carrying 203 passengers while the other had 10 passengers on board. Authorities described these figures as preliminary.
Precautionary medical checks
According to early information, there were no reported injuries among passengers on either vessel and no structural damage that would have caused water ingress. As a precautionary measure, three passengers were transported to the Paxos Health Center for medical examinations.
Local emergency and maritime services monitored the scene and assisted with passenger transfers and safety checks while the situation was assessed. No reports of significant pollution or vessel flooding were released in the first updates.
Officials said the details are preliminary and that further information about causes and any follow-up inspections would be provided as authorities complete their checks.
