Thanasis Antetokounmpo joins Aris Thessaloniki, to play with Nenad Dimitrijevic

Thanasis Antetokounmpo has completed a move to Aris Thessaloniki and will join teammate Nenad Dimitrijevic for the coming season, the club announced on September 1, 2026.

Two-year deal with option to extend

Aris confirmed that Antetokounmpo signed a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further season. The signing reunites the 30-year-old forward with Greek domestic basketball after a six-year absence.

Antetokounmpo's last club in Greece was Panathinaikos; he left to join his brother Giannis at the Milwaukee Bucks in the summer of 2019. His arrival in Thessaloniki was greeted warmly by Giannis, who publicly welcomed Thanasis to the club.

The move means Aris will feature both Thanasis and Nenad Dimitrijevic in the same backcourt next season. Dimitrijevic, widely regarded as one of the country's best players, will be a local focal point alongside the Antetokounmpo name.

Thanasis's transfer marks a notable exception to the usual flurry of football transfers that dominate the first day of September, as a high-profile basketball addition for a Greek club drew headlines in Thessaloniki.

Aris bring in the veteran Antetokounmpo hoping his experience at club and NBA level will boost their roster and provide leadership around Dimitrijevic and the club's other key players.
